Insomnia sleeps

Well, not very good news after three months without a single update.

The Insomnia project is on a total dormant status, due to several adversities on our professional and personal fields.

So we have decided to make public our decision of stop working on it for a while. Not at all that Insomnia becomes a dead project. Simply our work with Insomnia will cease for some time.

Meanwhile, this page will keep updating with other not-so-huge Doom-related things that we have in mind.

Kind of a CyberDreams epilogue...

Here's our modest contribution to the New Year's celebration. Feel free to download this new and little CyD-related map (Boom-compatible source port required). Quite short but intense! Get mc2001.zip here.

Thanks for all your feedback, and happy New Year!

Score with no film

This guy may look familiar to you all:

Nice, eh?

These two are some of the scans Peter Heinemann sent a while ago. A bit late, but we finally uploaded them, Peter. :)

No news about Insomnia this time, due to our serious lack of free time. However, for those who feel the need of some fresh CyberDreaming, you can pick up the 10SC first megawad, in which you'll be able to give some tries to Gonzalo's map 'Frenzy'. It's number 8, fyi... Tell us your opinions! Our congrats to all the authors who were involved, whether or not they reached Top 32.

Other than that, Doug Merrill has been so generous to share his demos for the first thirteen CyD maps. Some of them are real close to the current fastest runs. In a word: thank you, Opulent.

Nothing else to say, except for the fact that all the Best Times demos can now be grabbed in a single zip [no longer available].

At it

Insomnia progress. Here are a couple of screenshots of the levels we're working on at this moment. Take them as a simple preview, cause nothing is finished at all; and the more we have new textures to use, the more the architecture of our maps will be improved.

Demoing. October has been a month of demos for us, too. There are many places to choose from: Opulent's Speed Demos Archive, Ralf and Arno's Public DANG, Wim's contests...

Moving on

The CyberDreams HomePage becomes one of the NewDoom hosted pages! [Note (040522): that wasn't so great, to be honest. Finally our site got deleted without notice, very very nice] We'd like William Mull, Jason Sloan and the rest of the NewDoom team to recieve our sincere acknowledgement and gratitude for making this possible, and specially William for his help and support. We'll try to do our best.

Some credits. Martin Friberg sent some words talking about Yonatan's collection of CyberDreams demos, released in 1998. He was surprised when reading in our last update that no one else than Présage had recorded demos of the megawad; this was my reply:

Gonzalo and I are still working on the CyD Home Page, as well as on the 'Insomnia' project. And I guess both won't be absolutely finished until next year or maybe longer.

And one of the things that we have in mind to include in our page is a couple of new sections: credits and links. And of course we will include Yonatan in the credits.

Yonatan was indeed the first one to record CyberDreams demos, and he was a big, big reference for us to improve our playing skill. He's been one of the the best players around since ever.

So maybe here's why our words in the last update were not completely clear. We were talking about new demos... since the CyD HomePage demos collection was uploaded last August.

In other words: thank you once more, Martin. Obviously our words suggested a bit of confusion.

Yonatan's CyD demos can be found at his site.

At The Mole's. Lately I've been suffering what I would call 'The Great Arena syndrome' (btw, a 'great arena' which happens to be 'not so great', specially when being surrounded by 264 imps, i. e.) :) Check out Wim Vanrie's page, 'The Mole's Lair' for more info, and enter his lmp competition! Also you'll have the pleasure to meet other fantastic Doomers like Doug Merrill, Brad Spencer, Martin Schultz and Arno Slagboom. My regards to all of you, guys! Alb

The main project. 'Insomnia'...'Insomnia'... Where have I heard this before?

A couple of maps yet finished; two more maps in progress; the design of new textures has started as well. That's it. We won't say more for now.

Ok, just a little clue: start thinking of 'Insomnia' as a reduced and very difficult version of CyberDreams...

God's Manna. Something special happened a few days ago. Wim Vanrie (remember him from above?) recorded a couple of demos of CyD's maps 2 and 4. Still not breaking any record, though, but who cares about that? Send more demos, Wim! We count on you! Get his demos here [no longer available].

The Dream becomes shorter

Albert got four new time improvements, in levels 3, 17, 22 and 27, all of them "all-cybers-killed" mode. These demos are available in our Best Times table. We will see if someone else among the Community dares to record a CyD demo in the future... apart from Présage. Anyone? ;-)

Besides, the code of the main section has been slightly optimized, if that matters...

Présage at work... again

Yes. We're largely proud to announce the birth of a new CyberDreams extension, provisionally called Insomnia, which will include some more challenging levels, new graphics and new music. A lot of stuff still only on our minds, though. Insomnia's edition process will officially begin in the first week of September, and it will take about 5-6 months long (or so we expect).

More information in a few days...

CyD homepage inauguration part 3 - The project

The CyberDreams adventure was uploaded by Présage in April 1998. Two years later, this old and modest project sees the light again with several stuff which should be considered as an appropriate complement of the megawad, such as a brand new HomePage, and a complete collection of CyD's speed demos (one of the main reasons why this site exists), among other things.
