Demos Access to Best Times table

Prologue

Speed. Basically that's what we're offering on this section.

During the last months, we've been recording a large number of demos of the CyberDreams levels. This collection is now available here.

As you probably know by now, the point in the CyberDreams adventure was to kill each and every Cyber before exiting any level. And, in fact, most of the levels were built under this premise, so that the player apparently didn't have the chance to exit without killing all of them...

But most of the people out there knows what speeding is all about. Speeding brings the need for a better skill, and the search for new movements, new routes... and most of all, new tricks.

In other words, we got most of the following records by playing the CyberDreams levels not the way they were supposed to be played, but using all kind of tricks which made possible great time improvements. So if you came here searching for a conventional demo of any level, please go to the downloads section and get our "tutorial" runs.

Demo modes

We considered two different categories of demos: the ones in which you exit the level with 100% of Cybers killed, and the ones in which the only thought you have in mind is: "Who really cares about the Cybies? Let's just get the hell out of here!".

Ok, just joking. Let's give these two modes an "official" name:

· Mode "a" -> "all-cybers-killed" mode
· Mode "z" -> "illegal" mode

For more information, check out the recording section (below).

Cyber... bugs?

It has been really amazing to discover all the different tricks than can be used in CyberDreams levels. The point is that we had no idea about any of these tricks by the time the megawad was released. Let's face it, our playing skill was no killer at all two years ago (take a look at the internal demos, "keyboard-only" controller type!).

As a matter of fact, you can find the same kind of "bugs" in the original Doom and Doom2 levels, and most of the impressive speed-runs of those levels wouldn't have been possible without them... Anyway you all do know what we're talking about, right?

Back to CyberDreams, we have the feeling that there are some tricks left which still haven't been discovered. And here's where your part of the play begins...

Your demos!

After more than five years of playing Doom, you probably don't have to prove to anybody how good you are. Still, we need more than your word to verify it... ;-)

Are you using an alternative route? Have you discovered a new trick? Any of the records can be easily beaten? Our Best Times table is waiting for new entries, so let us check out your fighting against the Cybies.

But first you'll need to know something about...

...Recording demos

1) Take a look here to ensure that you have CyberDreams properly installed.

2) Assuming that you're using the correct path (i.e. D:\Doom2), here's what you need to type:

D:\Doom2\cyber -game cyber110.wad -skill 4 -dream XX -record ndemo

where XX is obviously a number between 1 and 32.

3) To play the demo:

D:\Doom2\cyber -game cyber110.wad -playdream ndemo

(fyi, note that all the recorded demos use the .cyb extension, instead of the usual .lmp).

Some important aspects:

· All the existing best times have been reached using UV mode. At the moment, we're not interested in any other skill level. So please, skill 4 only!

· CyberDreams appears to be a bit incompatible with most of the new Doom source ports. Don't use them.

4) Send your demo/s! The recommended filename is: nnuvttt[a/z].cyb
being:

nn -> level number
uv -> ultra-violence
ttt -> your time in minutes and seconds
[a/z] -> demo mode

Here's an example:

25uv014z.cyb -> level 25, exit in 0:14, "illegal" mode.
