dm2quakeWelcome to my dm2quake project. Don't get too excited about the name, this is not really a conversion or anything like that. My much more modest intention is to 'translate' some good Doom DM maps to Quake2. This idea was born after getting a network card and playing some 1on1 Quake2. The experience was great, except for the fact that most of the maps we had were far too big for two players. I thought that converting some small and intense Doom maps could be a nice idea. Re-installing Quark was the unavoidable next step, and the project began. So far there's only two maps finished, taken from the SwarmDmx series (some of you will probably remember). You can get the original wad by Jason from ftp.cdrom.com As the project grows bigger, I'll think of a way to organize the maps, but for now you can find them below, along with some screenshots and a brief description. Oh, btw, if you play any of them and find them good enough, you might want to consider recording a demo, I'd be pleased to include it somewhere in this page. Or just drop me a line, that would also be great. Swarm3D - Map01Download Swarm3D-01 (44 KB) Swarm3D - Map03This is the map that started the project. Being the first one, I tried to stick to the original size, proportions, item placement and DM starts. Some things had to be changed, obviously, but it's almost a 'pixel by pixel' conversion. I've kept the level simple, without additional decoration. Not as claustrophobic as Map01, but also small and fast.
Under the bridgeI add this map here, though it has nothing to do with the previous two, and no connection to Doom. In fact I designed it much earlier, this time from scratch. This was my first Quake2 map, so there are some errors here and there, specially lighting is not very good. Too many different colors but hey, it was the first time I could use that, I couldn't help it! :) The level is again quite small (also intended for 2-4 players), but I was too concerned about new editing possibilites, so gameplay is not as good as it should. As a matter of fact I'm not a Quake designer, and I haven't much experience, so don't be too hard on these maps! Download Under The Bridge (191 KB) |
